It’s been a few stressful months and I really couldn’t focus on even reading. It gets like that sometimes. Thank you for sticking around if you did. 🥺 I even redid my wall! It was falling apart lol! 📚 My Review: This book, in every sense of the word, was predictable. I knew exactly what was going to happen at the end, and the problem with that is I think that predictable endings are boring. I did enjoy the inner monologue and revelations that Nora had at the end, but throughout they seemed...tenuous and lasted way too long. I skimmed a lot at times. The "multiverse" reminded me too much of Marvel (the new spidey trailer, anyone?) and just confused me beyond belief because it went back and forth between just being something in her mind to being broader. I may have missed things because I found myself skimming some of the monologue she had, but still. As someone who has had depression and anxiety, the topic of suicide is handled well by the author. I can say that at the very least. Overall, it was mostly boring and predictable but I still liked it. It's not something I'd wish to experience since I guess you'd have to be between living and dying, but it would be interesting to see my other lives if I had made other choices. But then I'd just be wishing for the impossible (as Nora did for a while) and realize that I needed to make a difference in my own "root life." ✨Book review!✨ 📚The Secret Bridesmaid: ⭐ ✨Book review!✨ 📚The Secret Bridesmaid: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 🌸Thank you @netgalley for this ARC copy! Hi everyone! I’ve been getting posts up and ready so I hope you’re ready, because I sure am! Plus I may have had two 10 page papers due this past weekend. Yikes. The Secret Bridesmaid features Sophie, a girl who’s made it a job to be a secret bridesmaid for everyone but doesn’t focus on her own love life and tends to play things safe. Sophie is a great character. She’s fun, quirky, and caring. The other women characters - Cordelia among others - were also written very well. But when it came to the male characters, things just seemed off. Daniel seemed to be put in the story to be a reminder of Sophie’s lack of spontaneity rather than an actual character and Tom felt like a forced prince in shining armor. They had a few moments that were adorable but nothing to convince me of their relationship. Focused on friendship, The Secret Bridesmaid had many cute moments—but for a story that’s seemingly supposed to focus on romance, there was not enough to make this more than a decent read. To be honest, the Alina storyline is kind of boring right now because now it’s parallel to the Crows storyline which is so good! I do like Mal SO much more compared to the books, so we’ll see where it leads! Inej is a queen, Kaz is our legendary schemer, and Jesper is adorable - and Milo is the true hero. What’s your favorite part about the show? CR: Siege and Storm (65%) yeah we haven’t made any progress LOL I’ve been so busy. The action is almost never-ending (in and out of the bedroom), Poppy and Casteel are so in love it hurts, and the ending. OMG that ending. TCOGB was my favorite in its own way. While we aren’t focused on her and Casteel as much since their relationship is solid, we instead focus on Poppy’s power and origins and even travel to a new place. She also learns to be more confident (foursomes?!) and sure of herself, which we stan. We can always stand a queen. What are you waiting for? Go get this book. Seriously. But that is not your name any longer.”✨ 🌸This is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty (what is it with me and reading so many retelling lately that I’m just not crazy about?) but with a twist: Alyce, the Dark Grace, the vila, the ones who caused the death curse, falls in love with the princess. She’s grown up in a world that despises her and rejects her. I loved reading about Alyce’s struggles to live in a world where she’s hated and her compassion and empathy. She’s a beautiful person who is forced to become a monster because of what they think she is, not what she actually is. Her relationship with Aurora is also adorable but I wish they’d had more interactions to make things more believable. The reason I rated this so poorly was because of the writing. We’re given a ton of exposition at times that could easily have been woven into dialogue or literally any other way other than it being spilled out onto the page. Half of it seemed unnecessary as well, like knowing who rules the other lands when we never go there and it’s never necessary to the plot. Like at all. It was also terribly predictable in every sense and boring. The ending was the best part to be honest, and I wish it had happened earlier. While I understand this is a duology... it didn’t have to be.
